Fair Woodworking

Oh, Happy Day

Filed under: Fair Woodworking & Hand Tool Blog — fairwoodworking @ 3:57 pm

Well what’s so great about a Thursday?

Simple, Fairwoodworking is 2 years old today.

Well it’s something to me anyways.

Two years of attitude, and snarky remarks about whatever I darned well feel like.

And for some reason, you guys still seem to lack the basic sense of self-preservation to steer clear of me.

I wub you guys!

I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to share my take on this hobby, and I hope that some of what I write is helping beginners out there somewhere. It really is a great hobby to get into!

I think I’m going to continue running this as a semi anonymous blog since I’m not interested in making a name for myself, just goofing around, and trying to keep myself entertained. Besides, WITSEC would consider this a violation of our agreement.

Oh, and I also noticed that there is a second important thing that happened on this day.

Four years ago, I cut my first set of dovetails.

Really! What are the chances that these two things happened on the same date 2 years apart?

I know that dovetails get more than their fair share of attention, but 4 years ago today, I proved to myself that I could actually build something cool with hand tools.

Up to that time, I really didn’t have more than a hand full of semi connected skills, and no clue how to put them all together.  Dovetails gave me the confidence to actually build stuff.

And that is super cool.

If you have never cut a dovetail before, give it a try.

It will look like crap, but you will get better.

Then you will get the urge to start a blog.

And then you will write dumb anniversary posts every couple of years.

Happy Fairwoodworking day everyone!

  1. Congratulations on hitting the 2 year mark. I’ve enjoyed your style and approach to woodworking as it seems pretty close to my own. Most of my education in this hobby has come from piecing together advice from a variety of sources (books, magazines, videos, bloggers like yourself), so I appreciate the effort you put into this blog. Having tried to start my own woodworking blog, initially just as a finishing recipe log in case I wanted to duplicate a finish, I can say that 2 years of quality posts is a fine accomplishment. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Steve
      Thanks for the kind words.
Nobody is more suprised than I am that I’m still finding things to write about. Really there is a lot to this hobby if you are willing look for it.

  2. Hey, Happy Anniversary. You’re right on the money with that advice about dovetails. http://writingjoinery.wordpress.com/2013/02/27/first-times/
